OEA Board Vice President
Henry joined the OEA Board of Directors in June 2012 representing the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture. Henry Vissers is the Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture. Founded in 1895, the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture represents the interests of over 2400 families in Nova Scotia.
Mr. Vissers career has been focused on the business of agriculture. Prior to assuming that position, Mr. Vissers was the Executive Director of Pork Nova Scotia and prior to that General Manager of Bridgewater Co-op. Mr. Vissers grew up on a Dairy and Hog farm in Lunenburg County and as an adult owned and operated the farm in partnership with his father and brother prior to seeking off farm employment. During his years as a farmer, Mr. Vissers was involved in the agricultural community in a number of organizations including the local exhibition commission and County Federation.
In addition to his duties with the Federation, he sits on a number of committees including the Provincial Round Table on the Environment, Provincial Energy Committee and the Provincial Water Advisory Group as well as numerous NSFA committees dealing with agriculture policy both provincially and nationally.
He also has a “Viewpoint” column for the NSFA newsletter and an agriculture issues column for the Truro Daily News.
Mr. Vissers studied at the NS Agriculture College Business Program and holds a Management Certificate from Saint Mary’s University.
Mr. Vissers and his family live in Valley Nova Scotia.
