The Office of the Employer Advisor Nova Scotia Society (OEA NS) is seeking an Education Services Advisor to lead the development and delivery of employer education across Nova Scotia. About OEA NS
OEA NS navigates employers in the subject areas of Workers’ Compensation, Occupational Health and Safety, human resources, workplace health and safety, and intersecting employment issues. OEA NS provides training, individualized file assistance, advocacy, investigations, appeal support and advice and documentation including policy development, letters, appeal submissions and related employment and case management documentation.

About the opportunity
The Education Services Advisor advances the work of OEA NS by designing and delivering education programs, resources, and outreach that support employers across Nova Scotia. Through a client-focused approach, this role helps employers navigate workplace legislation, workers’ compensation, and occupational health and safety issues.
The position plays an important role in strengthening employer knowledge, promoting safer workplaces, and supporting effective navigation of workplace systems and processes.
Key responsibilities
- Support Nova Scotia employers by helping them navigate workplace legislation, workers’ compensation, and occupational health and safety issues while contributing to safer workplaces and a stronger employer community.
- Design, develop, and deliver employer education in a variety of formats, including webinars, classroom sessions, onsite training, virtual learning, conference presentations, and other educational initiatives.
- Create and maintain learning resources such as presentations, guides, newsletter articles, research links, and materials for the OEA NS information library.
- Coordinate and support training initiatives and events, including the OEA Employer Conference and other employer learning opportunities.
- Develop communications, promotional materials, and program content to support training events and educational programming.
- Conduct outreach to employers, business organizations, and worksites across Nova Scotia to raise awareness of OEA NS services and resources.
- Assess, evaluate and report on the effectiveness and impact of key areas of responsibility,
- Maintain accurate and confidential client files, documentation, and internal records, including employer logs and related case documentation.
- Support organizational reporting by compiling data and preparing materials for annual reports, mid-year reports, and other reporting requirements under the OEA NS funding agreement.
- Assist with monthly newsletters and other communications to support outreach and employer engagement.
- Manage processes related to client education requests, training registrations, and speaking engagements.
- Maintain the OEA NS online policy manual and support ongoing updates to organizational resources and materials.
- Administer post-training and file closure surveys and compile results to support evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Provide administrative support to the Employer Advisor team as required, including communications related to appeals and documentation.
- Contribute as a collaborative and respectful team member while supporting the overall objectives and success of OEA NS.
- Develop and support projects that advance the mission and priorities of OEA NS.
- Support OEA NS activities and events, including coordinating meeting logistics, ordering supplies, and supporting internal and board meetings as required.
Qualifications
Education and experience
- University degree in health or social sciences, law, or business, with knowledge and experience in workplace safety, workers’ compensation, occupational health and safety legislation, labour and employment legislation, disability case management, training, workplace policies and practices, and appeals.
- Minimum of recent 5 years of relevant workplace experience, including direct application within Nova Scotia.
- Demonstrated understanding, experience and performance in risk management and workplace injury prevention best practices.
Knowledge and skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present reports, educational materials, and policy resources.
- Experience developing education programs and learning resources such as presentations, guides, and informational materials.
- Ability to analyze information and prepare data reports with analysis, including contributing to OEA NS reporting such as annual reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint, along with experience using webinar platforms (e.g., Zoom and Microsoft Teams), digital file management systems and learning management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and coordinate projects or events effectively while simultaneously providing excellence in client services, and being mindful of deadlines and performance expectations.
- Strong client service, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills, with experience working with diverse stakeholders including employers, industry groups, and unionized and non-union workplaces.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment while demonstrating initiative and professionalism.
- Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining current knowledge of workplace legislation and industry developments.
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion and meet security clearance requirements when required.
Requirements
- Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Ability to travel throughout Nova Scotia, with occasional overnight travel
- Ability to wear PPE when visiting employer worksites
Assets
- Professional certifications in safety, training, disability management, or adult education (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or similar credentials)
- Bilingualism (English and French)
