Navigate September 1st workplace requirements with confidence

Posted on: September 02 2025

Is your workplace is prepared for the requirements which came into effect September 1?

You’re not alone.

Many Nova Scotia employers are asking the same questions. OEA NS can help you navigate the new requirements.

As of September 1, 2025, all Nova Scotia employers must have a written harassment prevention policy in place. The new Harassment in the Workplace Regulations (under the Stronger Workplaces for Nova Scotia Act) require policies that address both physical and psychological harassment.

Your policy must include:

  • Clear expectations for workplace behaviour
  • How employees can report concerns
  • How complaints will be investigated
  • Commitments to confidentiality and non-retaliation
  • A duty to cooperate in workplace investigations

You’re also required to train staff on the policy and review it at least every three years.

Here’s how we help employers navigate these changes
